I have been a runner since high school, peaked with my fitness as an Army Officer in the 90s, 3hr marathon in the early noughties and then became a sedentary Daddy after that! Mid forties and my midlife crisis came all too soon, I had to get back out there!
I entered the local sprint triathlon on my mountain bike and this is where my journey began. For two years (with an upgrade of the bike) I worked up from sprint to Olympic distance triathlon and well and truly got the bug. I had all the endurance required to finish these events, but when I decided to register for my first 70.3 Ironman in May 2014, I knew that I needed coaching and guidance both physically and mentally, not only to finish the event, but to finish it in a reasonable time and in good shape!
I found TCUK in October 2013 and went along for a fitness assessment. Matt tailored a training programme specifically to suit my needs. After working with Matt over the winter period I had seen serious improvements. Weekly check-ins gave me accountability and the focus I needed to maintain the long hours of training. Through a planned and efficient training programme, I was becoming a much better triathlete on daily basis.
The 70.3 was awesome, I enjoyed every moment, so much so I am registered to do it again next year, but this time as a training run for the full Ironman in Barcelona, 4th October 2015! I am looking forward to another year of training with TCUK, sensible guidance, positive encouragement & great advice. I will probably never make it to Kona but working with TCUK has definitely unlocked a potential that I didn’t know existed in me.
