NEW: Active Root GelMix

As big fans of Active Root's Ginger-based sports drink sachets, we're excited to try their new product designed to replace single-use gels: GelMix. If you're joining us at our forthcoming Lanza training camps you'll get the chance to trial the GelMix for free! Here's Active Root's sales director, George Ashley, with everything you need to know about GelMix...
For most triathletes, common issues during a triathlon include finding somewhere to put your empty gel wrappers, and stopping getting sticky gel all over your hands. From an environmental perspective, triathlon events are trying to be greener by banning the use of single use plastic cups at local events. Single use gels thrown onto the floor during an event contribute to the plastic waste issue.
Active Root has devised a new product to try and address these issues. Like all Active Root products, GelMix contains stomach settling ginger that helps prevent you feeling nauseous or bloated so you can focus on your triathlon. Having stomach discomfort is a common problem when whilst doing exercise and trying to keep fuelled and hydrated, particularly after using standard gels.
Many of the gastric problems that arise from energy gels are because of the artificial sweeteners and preservatives that they contain. This can also lead to a sickly, chemical taste. Active Root Gel Mix just uses natural ingredients that your stomach regularly digests. It's therefore also a far more natural, palatable and, we think, delicious taste! It's hard not to take 3 servings in one it's that moreish!
The GelMix comes as a powder that you add to reusable soft flask, each serving making up the equivalent of a single gel (25g of carbohydrate p/serving). We recommend using a 150ml soft flask which will be 3-4 servings. This not only means that you don't have to carry and throw away multiple gels, which is great for the environment, but you can also decide how thick or runny you want your gel to be. All of this allows you to sip your gel more gradually, rather than having to take it in one meaning less chance of those blood sugar spikes, and less sticky fingers and handlebars!
